Pest Management

We strive to ensure our herbs are as natural and healthy as possible by managing pests in a smart, environmentally sound way. We have three fundamental pest management principles.

Have a solid foundation

It starts with the soil. Healthy, balanced soil leads to healthy plants. And strong, healthy plants that haven't been over or under fertilized can withstand and overcome many pest outbreaks.

Fight pests with pests

We maintain various parts of our fields as a habitat for beneficial insects. Often times these "good bugs" will come in and keep the pests in check.

Use natural defenses

Sometimes, even when we do all of these things, the pests continue to be pesky. In that case we use non-toxic insecticidal sprays made from natural plants and oils. When sprayed at the right time—on cloudy days or evenings—the plants rarely need more than one or two treatments.
